The Core
The "core" is the torso, extending from the shoulders to the pelvis. It is the body's centre of power. When we refer to core strength, it is the intrinsic muscles that lie deep within the torso. These muscles attach to the spine and pelvis and include the transversus abdominis, and the muscles of the pelvic floor in the lower portion of the torso and the latissimus dorsi and obliques in the middle and upper torso. Many experts also include the muscles that surround the scapula as key core muscles."
This area is sometimes called "the powerhouse" because movement power and stability originate here. In addition to being the source of powerful, centered movement, the core muscles also provide a strong base of stability. The muscles of the core hold the body stable and balanced, whether it is stationary or in dynamic motion
Your core musculature does the following:
1. Contains and protects the internal organs
2. Ensures greater mobility of the spine and trunk
3. Stabilizes the top part of the body over the bottom part
4. Controls the pelvic-lumbar relationship.

Each one of those functions is important for a healthy, pain-free life, and there are certain things that we can do in our yoga practice to support them.
To strengthen the core
1) Close your eyes
2) Start Breathing Deep and long (only through your nose)
3) Bring the Core to your focus in your mind
4) Allow the oxygen being taken in to circulate to the core and out through your nose
5) Dont worry if you cant imagine or see images. Just the thought of the core will do the job
6) Do this for 5 mins daily
